Ruby's Genealogy
I don’t need an “Indian Tribal Card,”
To tell me who I am.
I won’t let insensitive deeds
Cause my dancing spirit to be bound.
My Native American Grandparents
Were independent and free.
The same proud blood, which they had
Still flows inside of me.
Humbly, I listen to my Elders,
Earnestly, I listen to my dreams,
Most of all
Closely, I pay attention,
To the visions that I have seen.
Listen to me completely,
Hear what I say,
Take my words seriously,
This very day,
I don’t need a Tribal Card,
To tell me who I am.
With Indian blood I was born
And with Indian blood
I will return to the ground.
