37th U.S. Col'd Infantry.

Organized February 3, 1864, from 3rd North Carolina Colored Infantry. SERVICE: Duty at Norfolk and Portsmouth, VA., till April 1864. Battles: of Fair of Chaffin's Farm, Fair Oaks, Fort Fisher, and Wilmington. Mustered out February 11, 1867.

This name appears on Wall C Plaque 52 Of the African-American Civil War Monument, Wall of Honor, 1000 U Street, N.W., Washington, D.C.

A grateful Nation finally pays tribute to the 209,145 black troops who helped save the nation, end slavery and start America on a struggle for freedom which continues today.
